The police in Atlanta are investigating an incident in which a ride-share driver allegedly shot at a man who was posing as an off-duty police officer and continued to follow her around past midnight.
The officers had initially responded to a ‘shots fired’ call at Wieuca and Roxboro Road in Buckhead, Atlanta shorly after midnight.
THat is where the police say they found 2 vehicles, both with substantial damage.
According to the investigators, one of the woman at the scene had claimed she had been followed by a man after she dropped off a passenger at a motel on Chesire Bridge Road. The man, 21-year-old Tyriq Qwadere Wiggins-Younger, allegedly tried using his car to block the woman in. The woman had attempted to drive away and police said that Wiggins-Younger then followed her, causing her to lose control and both of the vehicles crashed in front of the Target parking lot in Buckhead.
Following the crash, the police said that the woman fired multiple shots and hit hitting Wiggins-Younger. Police also claimed that Wiggins-Younger made the claim to be an off-duty police officer attempting to make a traffic stop. “In this case we do believe the person in the vehicle was just scared and just trying to get away from this person,” APD Major Carlo Peek said.
According to Police, Wiggins-Younger was arrested and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, he is in stable condition. He faces charges including aggravated assault, impersonating a police officer, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and also possession of drug-related objects.
The police said he will be moved to the Fulton County Jail as soon as he is released from the hospital. Police have not explained if the ride-share driver is facing any charges.
