A rideshare driver from Opelika was in court on Wednesday for a probable cause hearing after he picked up 2 female passengers in downtown Auburn and was accused of sexually assaulting them.
Theodore Leroy Halls, 46 was involved in the felony rape case that is headed to a Lee County Grand Jury in order for them to consider indictments after the Judge in Lee County found that there was enough evidence to move the case forward.
Back on April 11, 2022, Halls was arrested by the Auburn police on felony warrants and charged him with rape in the first degree, sodomy in the first degree, and first degree sexual in an alleged sexual assault close to the 700 block of Aspen Heights Lane. The police said the investigation showed that Halls had picked up the victim in downtown Auburn after she arranged a ride through the ridesharing service. During the ride, Halls had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.
Following Halls’ initial arrest, the investigation by the Auburn police continued. Halls was charged an additional charged on April 26,2022 on additional felony warrants of first degree rape and first degree sexual abuse after investigators identified another sexual assault victim from incident dating back 2 years. In both of the cases, investigators said that the survivors used the ridesharing app that had Halls pick them up in downtown Auburn.
Halls currently remains in custody at the Lee County Detention Facility. His bond set at $275,000.
