Actor and comedian Andy Dick appeared in court Monday in Los Angeles, after being accused of groping an Uber driver during a car ride over 4 years ago.
The 56 year old star’s hearing at Los Angeles’ Airport Courthouse came less than 2 weeks after his arrest in Orange County, California, on suspicion of a felony sexual battery in a completely separate incident.
In Monday’s court appearance, Dick – who was wearing a black checkered jacket, white shirt, black tie and pants – was facing a misdemeanor sexual battery charge which dated back to an incident that happened in April 2018 that involved an Uber driver.
The driver had told the police that Dick grabbed his genitals during the ride. He had been charged with a misdemeanor sexual battery and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in October 2019.
After his court appearance in LA, Dick had told DailyMail.com that the 2018 Uber incident never happened.
Judge Emily Garcia Uhrig ordered him to appear in court again for a pretrial hearing on May 27th.
In the Orange County incident, which happened on May 11th, Dick – whose real name is Andrew Thomlinson – was arrested by a sheriff’s deputy in a trailer park at the O’Neill Regional Park in Trabuco Canyon after a man called the cops and had accused him of a sexual assault.
The sheriff had sent the case over to Orange County’s District Attorney to prosecute, but so far there have been no charges have been filed against him.
According to the Orange County DA spokesperson, “There was not sufficient evidence against Mr. Dick in the information the Sheriff sent us, so we have sent the case back to the sheriff for further investigation. No charges have been filed at this point”
Dick hopes that charges in the latest case will never be brought up, he said “There shouldn’t be any charges, I don’t think any charges are warranted.”
Dick was then released from the OC jail the day after the alleged assault happened on $25k bail. However, his on & off again fiancee Elisa Jordana was so concerned that she called for him to be kept in jail. According to her, “He’s just not capable of making rational decisions right now. So he ended up with these people that put him in a really bad scenario. I wish they’d kept him in jail. I don’t think he can get hurt in there, at least there are caretakers that are being paid to watch over him 24 hours a day.”
According to Jordana, 33, she said that she believed he was entrapped by a group of people who he had been hanging out with that post their entire lives on YouTube. “I think that this was pre-orchestrated so they could sue him, or they want notoriety from it. I talked to him at 6am that morning, and I talked to the accuser as well. They were in bed laughing and giggling, touching each other, cuddling and necking. Andy’s not violent, and sexually, he’s very sweet. I’m scared that he people he ended up with, are taking advantage of his vulnerability, because he’s extremely vulnerable right now.”
Dick’s friend and former housemate, Jesse Grider, also agreed. “They’re just exploiting him and putting him on livestream all the time and trying to get something out of him,” he said.
In 2019, Dick had been sentenced to spend 14 days in jail after he was convicted of sexual battery for allegedly squeezing a woman’s bottom. He was released after 1 night due to jail overcrowding.
