Uber passenger is charged in the shooting and death of driver and mom of 4 in Pennsylvania

An Uber driver was found shot and killed last weekend according to Pennsylvania officials. The police in Allegheny County announced that a 22-year-old man, Calvin Crew, had been arrested and charged with criminal homicide, tampering with evidence, and robbery.

According to media outlets, Crew was a passenger in Spicuzza’s Uber on February 10th. Spicuzza, a 38-year-old mother of four had been reported missing on February 11th, after failing to return home from working as an Uber driver the previous night. Her vehicle had been found February 12th in the neighboring town, Pitcairn.

Later in the afternoon, police had discovered Spicuzza’s body abandoned in the nearby woods of Monroeville. According to officers, she suffered a single gunshot wound. According to media reports, Spicuzza’s dashcam video from the night she went missing, as well as testimony from Crew’s girlfriend had led officers to identify him as being a suspect.

After picking him up, Crew is shown pointing a handgun to the back of Spicuzza’s head, according to the video. He demanded that she continued to drive, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Spicuzza said at one point during the drive, “I’m begging you, I have four kids.” Just seconds before the video ends and Crew grabs the dash camera, he tells her, “Do what I say and everything will be alright.”

Crew’s girlfriend had spoken to detectives and said she had recently bought a 9mm handgun, but it had gone missing and she suspected that her boyfriend stole it. Uber had sent police information as well that pertained to Spicuzza’s driving, showing her trip information and who she had picked up. The records showed that Spicuzza drove Crew to Monroeville, exactly where her body had been found. Crew was taken intody custody and transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
